About me
Ana Terry (anaterry@op.ac.nz) is a practising designer, artist, principal lecturer and learning and teaching specialist working within the art and design departments at Otago Polytechnic | Te Pūkenga. She has over 30 years' experience teaching visual communication and fine art in a variety of higher education contexts, including university and polytechnic programmes in the US, Malaysia, Melanesia, South America, and China. She also undertook a Fulbright Scholar-in-residence in 2913-2014 at Kennesaw State University teaching in a new media arts program. She has developed a passionate interest in visual literacy and its implications for how we learn – with a focus on information processing theories and cognitive science. She advocates visual literacy (as with other literacies) rather than an add-on, be a recognised and common practice within higher education teacher training, policy, and academic culture. She is keen to connect with other learning/instructional designers and educators with experience and interest in integrating visual literacy into higher education professional development, teacher training, and policy.
